Room 1 Newsletter Term 4

Welcome to Term 4, I’m not sure where the time went last term and no doubt this term will fly as well.

We have sent Jack and Savannah off to Room 2 and welcome Kyal Dickson to school soon, making a total of 20 for the term.

We have a lot of events happening this term, which we hope will lead to some good work . Watch out for our performance of ‘Rata & the Canoe’ our Maori Legend from last term. If possible could the children please have a long sleeved black top and their black school trousers for this. Don’t send these yet, I will let you know when we have a date.

Other events and studies include the pet day, fire safety, reciting a poem and our major study is Space.

Reading and writing continue as usual, with the children continuing to develop their skills, and extend their output.

In maths we will keep on with learning our number knowledge, including counting backwards, knowing numbers before and after, and ordering numbers, first to ten and then to twenty.

The older children are working on addition and subtraction, and some on place value and skip counting.

Towards the end of the term we will all be learning about measuring.

As part of the professional development from the ATOL course we are attending, I am developing ‘learning stories’ with the children. This relates back to the key competencies and school values , where a child who has shown evidence of these, dictates a story of what they have done and what they have been learning. So far we have had some learning ‘caring & sharing’, ‘doing my best work’ and ‘ thinking of others’. These are all great attributes for our children to be learning .

Please contact me if you have any concerns or queries about your child.

Regards

Annette Scott
